Last week I welded 16 ga. sheet to 3/16" flat and angle for a test cell with 3/32" 7018, just the Lincoln 7018AC found at the big box stores and it worked great. You would probably have the best results with 6013, as it is a lower penetration rod, and doesn't have the heat requirement of 7018 (iron powder in flux) or its' storage problems.
